Members of Mississauga’s and Oakville’s fire services teams had to work together for a “high-hazard” trench rescue to save a buried patient. The crews responded to the house on Lakeshore Rd west of Fourth Ln after a man had gotten buried up to his waist. Halton Regional Police were also in the neighbourhood to shut down Lakeshore Rd. Firefighters rescued a desperate woman hanging from a window 20 stories above the street as dozens of people were trapped inside a Manhattan high-rise Saturday in a massive blaze that was sparked by an e-bike battery, the Fire Department said. The smoky blaze reported at about 10:30 a.m. injured 38 people, including five firefighters, said FDNY Commissioner Laura Kavanagh. Vaughan Fire and Rescue Service (VFRS) was the first department in Ontario to have all its firefighters certified to the province’s firefighter curriculum after the program was introduced in 1993. Now that Ontario has transitioned to NFPA professional qualifications, Vaughan has become the first career department in which all firefighters are certified in NFPA 1006 core competencies for technical rescue – all 300 of them. At approximately 10:50 on the morning of Wednesday, August 31, Calgary fire crews including the CFD technical rescue team, responded to a construction site at the 2900 block of 17 Avenue S.W. for reports of a workplace accident. The 9-1-1 call indicated that a construction worker had fallen down a concrete shaft at least 25 feet below street level and sustained significant injuries as a result.
